PUTNAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man faces multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder, after Putnam County officials responded to a reported stabbing Saturday.
At about 12:45 p.m., deputies with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the call near Jess Rodgers Road. The caller said he had picked up someone who had been stabbed near the area and who was "bleeding profusely," according to Putnam County authorities.
The victim identified his attacker as his nephew Daniel Jackson, police said. Putnam County authorities said that they lived together; Jackson had begun "acting erratically and attacked him with a sharp instrument" before Jackson grabbed a shotgun from a nearby vehicle and tried to shoot him. Once Jackson realized the shotgun was unloaded, he tossed it into the nearby woods and fled on foot.
Deputies were able to find Jackson as he was walking along Jess Rodgers Road and took him into custody without any incident. Jackson reportedly admitted to authorities that he had attacked his uncle with a small knife as well as hitting and choking him. Jackson added that he tried to assault the victim with a shotgun before throwing it and trying to hide it in the woods.
Jackson told Putnam County officials that he had believed his uncle owed him money and he wanted it back. He has been charged with one county attempted first-degree murder, one count aggravated robbery and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon. He has a $1.2 million bond and his court date has been scheduled for June 11.
