CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE/WKRN) — Following the discovery of a woman's body in Cumberland County earlier this week, law enforcement announced her son had been arrested for murder.
According to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, someone called 911 on Monday, Nov. 3 requesting a welfare check on 76-year-old Linda Spivey. The Lake Tansi Police Department went to her home in the 7100 block of Big Horn Drive and found the woman dead, so deputies responded to the residence shortly after 9 p.m. and secured the scene.
The sheriff's office said its investigators joined members of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the 13th Judicial District Attorney General's Office at the scene for the investigation, which identified 59-year-old Kenneth Spivey as a primary suspect in Linda's murder.
The TBI said agents obtained a warrant charging Kenneth, the victim's son, with first-degree murder. The Crossville man was reportedly taken into custody without incident and booked into the Cumberland County Jail, where he's being held on a $1 million bond ahead of his Dec. 8 court appearance.
According to officials, the victim's remains will be taken to the Medical Examiner's Office in Nashville for an autopsy, and the evidence will be analyzed by the TBI crime lab.
No additional details have been released about this ongoing investigation.
