GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man is facing a slew of felony charges after police said he was found with loaded guns and drugs following his involvement in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 65.
According to an arrest report, the incident unfolded on Monday, April 14 at approximately 3:14 p.m. after officers were sent to respond to a multi-vehicle crash with injuries that occurred on I-65 near mile marker 95.
When officers arrived, they reportedly observed a man—identified as 43-year-old Ricky Watts—stumbling around near the roadway. When asked if he was ok, Watts allegedly told the officers he did not know if he hit his head or not.
Authorities said they then asked Watts if he had anything to drink after noticing that he couldn't keep his balance and his pupils were dilated.
As officers asked Watts to move to the other side of the guardrail to better assist him, two guns reportedly fell out of his pants onto the ground. An arrest report states one of the guns appeared to have fallen from a holster on Watts' right hip, while the other fell from from his waistband.
Police added "both weapons had one in the chamber ready to go armed." Watts was then instructed to go back to the vehicle and speak with medics.
After running Watts' information through dispatch, officials reportedly learned that the 43-year-old was a convicted felon previously charged with the following: theft of property, forgery, attempted second-degree murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, second-degree murder knowing, introduction into a penal facility, and theft of merchandise fifth offense.
According to an arrest report, medics decided that Watts needed to go to the hospital. However, before he could be loaded into the ambulance, officers conducted a search and reportedly found a "large amount" of drugs in his crotch area: 51 Xanax bars, 10 grams of cocaine, and 12.2 grams of heroin.
Watts was charged with three counts of possession with intent to sell, felon in possession of a weapon, and possession of a firearm with intent.
He is being held in Metro Jail on a $135,000 bond.
