NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A mother who lost her son and nephew to murder is trying to give teenagers an alternative to gang related violence.
She's started a music class at her church called Guitars Not Guns.
Clemmie Greenlee is heartbroken over the recent gun violence in Nashville.
Metro police officials said there has been a streak of shootings involving teenagers.
Greenlee is now making it her mission to change one young life at a time through music.
"Guitars and not guns," Greenlee said. "Join my gang. You're still in a gang, but you took the violence out. You're making music now!"
She said the organization, Free Guitars 4 Kids, reached out to her and donated guitars.
So she launched Guitars Not Guns, a twice-a-month class at The Rock United Ministries in Nashville.
"It's a program for young boys and puts an emphasis on picking up a guitar and doing something constructive, not picking up a gun," mental health therapist Eric Capehart said.
Greenlee said even though Guitars Not Guns is just getting off the ground, she's happy with the turnout.
She said she could use some help from volunteers.
