LEBANON, Tenn. (WKRN) — You never want too much of a good thing—at least that's what Lebanon leaders have decided on when it comes to murals.
As of this week, no more murals will be allowed to be painted in certain parts of downtown.
This is an issue the Lebanon City Council has been considering since April, and the final vote was on Tuesday.
The city council passed a resolution halting any future murals in the historic district, and placing signage reflecting the new rule.
The resolution comes after the city made moves to increase public art in the county.
In 2015, there was a big push to paint more murals all across Wilson County. At that time, the county's business bureau agreed to paint 10 murals in an effort to expand tourism and the arts.
However, in downtown Lebanon alone, 12 have been installed over the years.
Lebanon Mayor Rick Bell told News 2 the city loves their murals, but they don't want too many.
Prior to the resolution, there were already some restrictions on painting murals in Downtown Lebanon: Murals were already prohibited on bare brick. They also had to be put on a building that was already painted.
