LEBANON, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Fourth of July is just a few days away, and ahead of the big holiday, one Middle Tennessee city is cracking down on fireworks.

Lebanon Mayor Rick Bell told News 2 the city is restricting the use of fireworks inside city limits.

The ordinance states you can only shoot off fireworks within city limits from July 1 to 5, and you have to stop shooting them off at 10 p.m.

The city was having issues with people lighting fireworks for weeks before and after Independence Day.

So now leaders want to limit complaints from neighbors, while still allowing people to have fun.

Bell told News 2 for right now, they aren't implementing any consequences if you break the ordinance.

"We're not trying to fine people or get people in trouble. We just want people to know that those loud noises late at night, there are some people out there that it does bother, so we want people to follow the regulations," Bell said.

If you have any complaints about fireworks, the city asks you to call the non-emergency police line at 615-444-2323.

In addition to the mayor's reminder, the Lebanon Police Department also issued a public notice to residents regarding fireworks on social media.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), LPD reminded residents about the ordinance and further restrictions on the use of fireworks inside city limits:

  • Fireworks can only be used by those 18 and older unless supervised by an adult.
  • Fireworks cannot be used within 600 feet of a church, hospital, funeral home, or school.
  • Do not discharge fireworks within 200 feet of where fireworks are sold or stored.
