LA VERGNE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The City of La Vergne is looking to add a new playground to the community, and officials are asking for the public's help to get it.
The city announced it would be applying for a Blue Cross Healthy Places Grant in the hopes of building a new playground on Stones River Road near the traffic circle. The area is also located near La Vergne Middle School.
To that end, the city is asking the public to fill out an online survey, which will help show community support for the playground, thereby boosting the city's chances of receiving the grant.
"Community involvement is crucial in the success of our grant application and being able to offer the community more amenities for families to enjoy," the city said in a release.
A rendering of the playground on the city website shows amenities like a swing area, multiple fitness stations, a ramped play area, and a community area with picnic tables and a pavilion included. Other features include benches, a bike rack, a secondary play area and a 50-foot-long, 5-foot-wide sidewalk leading to the playground.
The survey will remain live through Aug. 22, according to the city. To take the survey, click this link.
The grant program has previously helped install parks in Nashville, with the Northwest Family YMCA being the first such park in the city. BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Foundation invested $6.4 million for that park, according to BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee. Barfield Crescent Park in Murfreesboro is also a Healthy Places grant funded project.
