LA VERGNE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The City of La Vergne is still unable to access its computer networks following a cyber attack.
The city first reported the attack nearly two weeks ago on Oct. 17.
After closing their city offices all of last week, some of La Vergne’s government buildings reopened Monday morning.
“We now have the facilities open, (but) the library is still down and closed, and the city court is still closed,” La Vergne Public Information Officer Donna Tracy explained. “So city hall is closed to the public.”
La Vergne residents showed up in numbers on Monday to pay their utility bills in person, using money orders or checks.
City officials said no late fees or shutoffs will happen during this unforeseen downtime.
“We also have the drop-box on the side of the building. So you can drop (payments) off, you don’t have to come into the lobby, but we are here and available for people to come in,” Tracy said. “We can answer general questions; we just cannot access any information on our servers right now. We cannot access accounts.”
With that said, Tracy told News 2 they are reverting to how things were before computers: city officials — including first responders — are recording everything by hand to be entered into their systems once they’re back up.
“We’re definitely doing workarounds on how we process our information,” Tracy said. “Our police department, our fire and rescue department, our parks and recreation… a lot of their services (have) continued not quite as usual… It’s paper and pen. But services have never been interrupted.”
Tracy called this past week-plus an “exercise in problem solving.”
The cyber attack remains under investigation. It remains unknown when La Vergne’s services will be back to normal, according to Tracy.
In the meantime, Tracy encouraged residents to sign up for notifications from the city.Â
