NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — One KIPP Kirkpatrick teacher is hoping to offer students the best Halloween haunted house the school has ever seen.

Joseph Jenkins told News 2 he's hoping the East Nashville community and beyond can help him with adding more spooky things to the haunted house he is organizing at KIPP Kirkpatrick later this week.

According to Jenkins, the school has put on Halloween events for the last few years. They began after the COVID pandemic forced students out of the classrooms as a way to foster community despite the distance. It started as a trunk-or-treat but has since grown to include multiple areas of the school for a Halloween haunted house.

"We still wanted to create an event that helped foster the community and relationship building," Jenkins said of the initial Halloween trunk-or-treat. "Over the past couple of years, we've created a haunted house."

This year's haunted house is going to be the "biggest and best" one the school has seen, according to Jenkins.

"I just need some more donations in order to make this the best haunted house for my students and for our community here in the East Nashville area," he told News 2.

To that end, Jenkins said if anyone has any Halloween decorations they aren't using, including skeletons, jack-o-lanterns, spiderwebs, and more, he asks to consider dropping them off at KIPP Kirkpatrick Elementary School.

"We have different types of volunteers that are coming in," he said. "They'll be coming over to help be part of the haunted house. Right now we're just in the process of planning everything out."

Without giving away too much, Jenkins said this year's haunted house will be utilizing the cafeteria and a hallway leading to it, expanding on previous year's haunted houses.

"There's a lot of times that we put things in the trash that we may not be using, so if there's anything like that, I'm definitely wanting to see what we can bring back to life," Jenkins told News 2.

Anyone wanting to help the KIPP Kirkpatrick haunted house can reach out to Jenkins through his Facebook page or contact him at the school.

"If anyone is interested in donating or bringing in anything, they can reach out to me at the school," he said. "You can just bring the items to the school."

He asked that any donations to brought to the school by Wednesday, Oct. 30.

KIPP Kirkpatrick is located in East Nashville on Sevier Street.
