Description
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Fall is here, and there are two cold fronts that will bring storm chances to the region ahead of a weekend cooldown. There is low-end severe storm risk on Thursday, and possibly another storm risk Friday. By Saturday, temperatures are much cooler.
Thursday
On Thursday, the Storm Prediction Center has areas mostly east of I-65 are under a Marginal Risk (1/5). This is the lowest risk scale, meaning a few strong to severe storms are possible.

The primary storm threats will be wind gusts and small hail. Some storms will produce brief heavy rain.

The storms start in Southern Kentucky early on Thursday morning and push east through the state through midday. From midday to the afternoon, storms develop ahead of the cold front in the eastern counties of Middle Tennessee and southeast Southern Kentucky. Due to higher terrain, which provides additional lift in the atmosphere, a few strong storms could develop. The front fizzles out Thursday night in southern counties.
Friday
On Friday, there is no risk category in our region from the Storm Prediction Center. However, in their latest discussion, they mention the possibility of a severe risk being added.
"...given the degree of instability and the presence of a strong cold front, the risk of warm-sector convection remains. If confidence in warm-sector convection occurring increases, severe probabilities may be warranted across portions of eastern Oklahoma east through Arkansas into western Tennessee and northern Mississippi." -Storm Prediction Center, day 3 outlook

In the model data our weather team has seen, it appears the threat of wind gusts and hail would be possible in some stronger storms. Brief heavy rain and lightning are possible.

The timing comes during the peak heating on Friday, after reaching the middle 80s to lower 90s. Scattered storms increase and linger through mid-evening, which could impact Friday night football games in the region.
Into Saturday morning, a few showers remain as the cold front passes through, and temperatures turn much cooler.
This will bring a cooler weekend with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s. The cooler temperatures will be short-lived as highs return to the 80s next week.
