NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) -- A family is mourning the death of a Nashville woman following a hit-and-run crash in Antioch Wednesday night.

The incident happened in the 600 block of Bell Road, outside the Preakness apartment complex, around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, a dark sedan hit 23-year-old Larissa Houston as she was riding an electric bicycle across the street. That sedan reportedly sped off, running several red lights before it was last seen near the Interstate 24 and Bell Road interchange.

Officials said Houston was brought to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she died.

Houston's grandmother, Helen Agbonifo, spoke with News 2 following the crash. Agbonifo discussed Houston's love for her family, friends, and basketball.

According to Agbonifo, her granddaughter had been passionate about basketball since she was little, even going on to play the sport in college. Her joyous personality also helped shine a light on those around her.

"Whoever did it, I wish they would come forward so we can get closure," Agbonifo said. "This is just not right, the way these kids are going out."

District 32 Metro Councilwoman Joy Styles expressed her sadness and condolences to Houston's family. She is an advocate for license plate recognition cameras and believes they would have helped identify the driver of the sedan.

"When we have an incident like this, I think about, 'What if we had an LPR on Bell Road to be able to have captured that license plate and to be able to hold that person accountable who actually took a life?'" Styles said.

Authorities are still investigating this case. If you have any information about Wednesday night's deadly crash, you’re asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
