GALLATIN, Tenn. (WKRN) — After more than a decade, a Gallatin butcher shop has officially closed its doors.
A representative for Porter Road Butcher told News 2 that the business has filed for bankruptcy. The business is growing an online presence and, in a Facebook post, the owners said that Porter Road favorites are available at some area grocers or restaurants.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closing of Porter Road Butcher at 501 Gallatin Ave in East Nashville," a Facebook post announcing the closure reads, in part. "...We are deeply grateful for the support and memories shared."
A representative for Porter Road Butcher told News 2 that the co-founders wanted to focus on online marketing and claimed that the business had filed for bankruptcy around April or May of this year. However, fans of the shop can still order their meats from the company, but it will be online only.
Co-founder James Peisker gave News 2 the following statement regarding the closure:
"This has been very difficult and we have weighed the decision for a very long time. But, it’s time to make that difficult decision of closing the flagship brick and mortar shop in east nashville. This decision is one that is of natural progression, evolution of running a business in Nashville. Not one that is made necessarily by choice (I don’t think we could actually make that choice otherwise), but one that is made for you through those evolutions and transformations over time. We have done everything we could think of to avoid this conclusion. But, the time has come and we must be moving on. We will never forget the memories the shop created and the community that it was created for. Porter Road will still be available through grocery store partners and our D2C marketplace via PorterRoad.com. We built this site based off the interactions and experiences of operating for 15yrs in this community. This is not easy, but most things aren’t. We hold our heads high for the work that was done and will miss you all, but as of Saturday we will bid y’all a good bye. Thank you!!”
