FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WKRN) — Drivers in Franklin may need to make alternate plans near one major intersection come Monday.
Crews are about to begin the next major phase of the city's ongoing water and sewer upgrades, which means plenty of road closures.
This is phase 7 of the project, and construction will now be focused on the 5 Points intersection near the downtown square.
Starting Monday, July 7, crews will shut down the intersection of Lewisburg Avenue and 5th Avenue South from South Margin to 5 Points.
Drivers will still be able to turn right onto 5th Avenue North from Main Street in either direction and continue from 5th Avenue North to Columbia Avenue.
City leaders told News 2 the old sewer line system was extremely outdated, but this temporary pain will allow for a much more resilient updated system.
"This is a very important and a very traveled intersection, and we understand it will be an inconvenience, but there will be plenty of signage and access on how to maneuver around downtown," Franklin Water Management Department's Brian Goodwin said.
The city said they have a few more water tie-ins to complete before the project is officially done.
They're expecting it to be complete around Sept. 4.
