Description
FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WKRN) — Cinco de Mayo falls on a Monday this year, which means some people are planning a full weekend of celebrating. That's why police are increasing patrols in Williamson County.
The Franklin Police Department says they're going to be spread out city-wide, but focusing on the areas of Franklin where there are a lot of restaurants, because that's where people usually go to celebrate the holiday.
Police told News 2 they arrest more drunk drivers on holidays than they do any other time of the year.
The department is bringing in extra officers over the weekend from their traffic unit.
They say if they catch you driving under the influence, the consequences are steep. You could get jail time, a fine, or hurt someone or yourself.
"DUIs have consequences. It's a shame that people feel like they can drink and then get into a car when there are options available, whether that be a taxi or a rideshare, or simply designating a sober driver," FPD Public Information Officer Max Winitz said.
Franklin PD will have a heavy presence not just this weekend but also on Monday for Cinco de Mayo.
