Description

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The first-ever Nashville Neighborhood Summit is bringing together neighborhood leaders from Glencliff, East Nashville, Donelson and other areas to discuss challenges within neighborhoods.

Every neighborhood has its unique challenges. This summit is all about residents protecting the value and security of their neighborhood. The grassroots event is organized by several neighborhood organization leaders.

The organizing committee is led by Alex Abels from the Renraw neighborhood and Alexa Little from the Glencliff neighborhood. Attendees will hear from local neighborhood leaders, including keynote speaker Mike Hodge.

Former District 15 Councilmember Jeff Syracuse lives in Donelson Hills, which he said has about 504 homes, along with a condo development. Syracuse helped organize a neighborhood watch program, which eventually evolved into a neighborhood association.

“I’m really excited to see this next generation of neighborhood leaders coming together to learn from each other,” Syracuse said. “Best practices about how you can keep people engaged, connected, so I’m happy to be there to share my experience.”

Syracuse said no two neighborhoods are alike. After working with plenty of neighborhoods over the years, he knows firsthand how it’s important to listen to neighborhood needs and help them get involved.

“It’s really encouraging and important that we have neighborhood leaders who are trying to come together to learn from each other,” Syracuse said. “I guess you could say where we were, where we are and where we’re going.”

Nonprofit organizations, like the Civic Design Center and Greenways for Nashville, will provide resources that outline the steps for taking action to make change.

The Nashville Neighborhood Summit will be held on Nov. 1 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Nashville Public Library Donelson Branch. The event is free, but residents can RSVP to secure their spot.
