Firefighters Make “Good Stop” After Deck Fire Threatens Coopertown Home
COOPERTOWN, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – At 5:01 p.m. Friday, the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire on Martins Chapel Road in Coopertown. MAP Crews arrived to smoke showing from the rear of a two-story home. In the rear of the home, firefighters found a two-story deck, exterior stairs, and firewood on top of a smoker, all on fire.
As crews pulled lines, the fire was lapping at the home, the outer façade was melting, and the soffit was hanging down. Firefighters moved quickly and knocked the fire down before it penetrated the living space. Thanks to the courageous efforts by our local firefighters, the home remains livable. It’s what firefighters call a “good stop.” No injuries were reported.
According to Assistant Chief Trey Nelms, the cause of the fire was likely a smoker. Radiant heat ignited firewood that had been stacked on top of the smoker, and the fire spread from there onto the deck and stairs. Firefighters used two engines, one tanker, and one rescue to bring the fire under control. Inside the home, there was no smoke and no fire damage; the interior remained pristine.
Agencies on scene included Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department, Robertson County EMS, and Coopertown Police.
