NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) -- A man was taken into custody for multiple charges related to a fight in East Nashville earlier this month that escalated and left two people injured, including his teenage daughter.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, officers responded to a reported shooting at the intersection of South 6th Street and Sylvan Street around 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 1.
The investigation, led by the Non-Lethal Shooting Unit, revealed 45-year-old Bert Watkins was fighting with a 29-year-old man, officials said. Watkins' 16-year-old daughter reportedly told detectives that her father pulled out a gun during the altercation, she heard a shot shortly afterward, and she realized she had been struck in the hand.
Authorities said the 29-year-old showed up at Vanderbilt University Medical Center with a head injury, claiming Watkins had pistol whipped him during the fight.
According to law enforcement, the firearm -- which was recovered from the scene of the incident -- had been reported stolen out of Memphis in 2022.
Police said Watkins fled after the incident, but TITANS Unit detectives found him in the James Cayce neighborhood on Thursday, Sept. 11. He was arrested on four outstanding warrants in connection with the shooting.
Officials said Watkins is being held in the Downtown Detention Center on a $45,000 bond, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, theft of a firearm, and possession of a handgun as a felon.
