NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A group dedicated to making South Nashville better is using a local middle school garden to bring their community together.
Cosecha Community Development focuses specifically on the Nolensville Pike corridor in South Nashville. From now to the end of the year, they're inviting the community to come out to Wright Middle School and garden with them.
Cosecha leaders told News 2 they started the garden as a way to cultivate better relationships between neighbors.
They're growing things like squash, beans, and even hibiscus flowers at the middle school's garden.
Leaders said they have an abundance to share, so people are able to take home fresh vegetables with them. They also want to teach the community how to garden and produce their own fresh food.
Catherine Lewis, who manages the Wright Middle School garden, said she hopes it has a lasting impact on people.
"I think a garden is a great context for community building and fostering relationships and helping us all slow down a little bit and pay attention to what's going on under our feet and right around us," she told News 2.
The community gardening happens every Friday through the rest of the school year from 9-11 a.m.
