HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Leaders with Sumner County Schools said they’re right on track with their much-anticipated, highly-debated stadium upgrades.

After the bleachers at Beech High School collapsed in 2023, the district worked towards renovating the football stadiums at Beech High School, Portland High School and Hendersonville High School.

Construction officially broke ground on the $20 million project last September.

“[There have been] no delays. It's three comprehensive stadium projects, plus two tracks, plus tennis courts. There’s as much work being done beneath the surface. You can see the bleachers here — these went up in about three days," said Sumner County’s Director of Schools, Scott Langford, pointing to the visitors' bleachers at Hendersonville High School.

Renovations have deliberately not been “cookie-cutters” of each other, so their timelines are different. Langford told News 2 that Portland High School's bleacher upgrades are nearly done.

Meanwhile, Hendersonville High School and Beech High School still have plenty of site work left to accommodate their new layouts. However, Langford said the home bleachers should take no time to go up when the time comes.

“These stadiums are going to be beautiful. They capture the desire of the local community. We met with stakeholders and talked about what they wanted, what they envisioned,” Langford added. “To see the kids run out there on Friday nights, and it’s not just football players; it’s band, it’s cheer, dance, 100 different student activities and everything that will be here.”

Langford said all three stadiums will be ready come August — just in time for the 2025 high school football season.

The more than $6 million that are allocated for these county-wide upgrades will then be used on projects at Station Camp High School, Gallatin High School, and Merrol Hyde Magnet High School.

“It’s just really gratifying. I’m so excited for the kids. After two years of being up in the air with the stadiums and rental bleachers and everything else — to be able to have these stadiums open for our kids first and foremost, but for the coaches and the fans and the parents. [I'm] just really excited for them."
