NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – New FBI data shows violent crime across Tennessee has dropped over the past five years, but this weekend told a different story in Nashville, where police responded to three separate shootings in just two days, including one that killed a man.

The Metro Nashville Police Department said gunfire erupted after an argument in the parking lot of the MAPCO gas station in the 1300 block of Neelys Bend Road shortly before 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9. The victim, identified as 25-year-old Chris Bond II, died at TriStar Skyline Medical Center.

Investigators said the suspect left the scene in his vehicle after the shooting. Officers later arrested 36-year-old Timothy Lamar Williams at an apartment complex on Cheyenne Boulevard. He is now facing a felony criminal homicide charge in connection with the case.

Neighbors said they were shocked to learn the shooting happened in a place they frequent.

"Hearing that is really crazy because I come here very often, live here, and my little siblings, my mom, my family come over here a lot, so it’s kind of scary hearing that," Madison resident Jayden Pyant said.

Another resident, Marcus Boyd, offered condolences to Bond’s family and called for improvements in the neighborhood: "Hopefully, they can see better, get it together, and push for better in the community."

The Madison shooting was one of three across Nashville this weekend.

Authorities said a woman was shot in the leg while sitting in a vehicle outside of a bar in the 100 block of Lafayette Street in South Nashville just before 3 a.m. Saturday. An altercation allegedly took place between a security and a patron at the bar before the shots were fired.

Then, shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10, officials reported a man was shot at an East Nashville apartment complex in the 300 block of Dellway Villa Road, sending him to the hospital.

Some community members said while the recent FBI statistics show progress statewide, they still see areas of concern locally.

"I agree with that crime rate going down, but carjacking [is] going up, so it's a lot to work on in the community and the whole Nashville," Boyd said.

Police have not shared any information indicating this weekend's shootings in Nashville were related.
