NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Metro Nashville police say the man driving the truck that struck and killed 77-year-old Dorothy "Dot" Dobbins in Germantown is now being charged with a misdemeanor.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, 24-year-old Conner Smith is now charged with failure to yield the right of way resulting in death, a Class A misdemeanor.
The MNPD Traffic Division issued Smith the state misdemeanor citation on Thursday night, officials said.
According to investigators, Dobbins was crossing 3rd Avenue North near Van Buren Street while in a marked crosswalk when she was hit by the truck.
Witnesses said Smith ran to help Dobbins until paramedics arrived. She was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died.
Authorities said officers did not find any evidence of impairment or distracted driving from Smith.
According to the MNPD, Smith will appear to be booked for the citation on Aug. 7.
