ROBERTSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – On May 9, Smokey Barn News reported on a scheduled DUI checkpoint in Robertson County (Springfield) conducted by the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Leading up to and during the checkpoint, several readers contacted us with concerns that immigration enforcement might be involved.

At the time, based on what we knew and what we observed at the scene, we believed those concerns were unfounded and responded accordingly, stating that it was a standard DUI checkpoint, not related to immigration enforcement.

However, we have since learned that at least one individual stopped that night, a passenger, not the driver, was detained and later deported by federal immigration authorities. While we do not have full details on how that process unfolded, it is clear that immigration enforcement did occur in connection with the checkpoint.

We now recognize that our readers were right to raise the possibility, and we were wrong to dismiss those concerns so quickly.
