MANCHESTER, Tenn. (WKRN) — A lettuce company is establishing its first Tennessee greenhouse in Coffee County, bringing more than 300 jobs to the area.
Gov. Bill Lee was on hand for the announcement at Manchester Industrial Park Monday morning.
Little Leaf Farms will create 318 new jobs over five years and invest nearly $75 million in Manchester, according to a release. The company’s operations will be growing and manufacturing facilities that have the capacity to produce and distribute packaged leafy greens throughout the southeast and midwest.
Little Leaf Farms is recognized as the country’s No. 1 brand of packaged lettuce sustainably grown through controlled environment agriculture.
“Agriculture is the backbone of Tennessee’s economy, supporting tens of thousands of jobs and driving growth in our rural communities. I'm proud to welcome Little Leaf Farms to our state and am grateful for their commitment to innovation and job creation that will strengthen our agricultural industry and expand opportunity for hardworking Tennesseans,” said Gov. Lee in a release.
Little Leaf Farms uses greenhouse technologies to grow fresh, sustainably farmed lettuce 365 days a year.
The company developed its first greenhouse in Massachusetts in 2015 and has since grown to include facilities in Pennsylvania and now, Tennessee.
