Description

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A strong arctic cold front has made its way across Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky, and that's going to make it feel like winter from Sunday to Tuesday. Cold, arctic air is filtering in from the northwest setting us up for a blustery Sunday and even some snow chances!

Gusty winds will stick around all day Sunday into Monday! Gusts will reach 20 to 30 mph and make it feel even colder outside with frigid air from the arctic moving in. This will also be a factor in not seeing much snow accumulation going into tonight and tomorrow because windy conditions won't allow for any amounting snow to stick, even with extremely cold temperatures below freezing.

Temperatures are feeling like the 30s through the majority of the day with winds gusting 20-30 mph and bringing in wintry air from the northwest. Overnight lows feel like the teens and single digits. Monday and Tuesday will be dangerously cold mornings. Make sure to bring your pets and plants in and drip the faucet tonight and tomorrow night.

A mostly cloudy day will persist through Sunday, with a few splash and dash showers in the afternoon. By approximately 7 p.m., some snow flurries are possible east of Interstate 65. The first round of snow will be clearing off the Cumberland Plateau by 10 p.m. Dry conditions last overnight, but by Monday midmorning snow showers could be more widespread across the Midstate.

Snowfall might be seen across most of Middle Tennessee, but will be more likely east of I-65. Accumulation isn't likely along I-65 due to windy conditions and the lower likelihood of precipitation. On the plateau, closer to Jamestown and Crossville, more snow is possible. This means a coating of about half an inch could happen. This would likely not have a travel impact, but cause just a few slick spots on roadways.

While snow may not be widespread across the region, the cold mornings will be. Overnight lows will drop into the 20s to start off Monday and Tuesday morning. This means a hard freeze is expected. Again, make sure to remember the "four P's": pipes, plants, pets, and people! Tuesday morning will be the coldest for the next seven days with lows near 22 degrees. This is just two degrees above the record low set in 1960. It will feel even colder on Tuesday morning like the teens and maybe even the single digits in some spots.

Temperatures quickly bounce back into the 60s by Wednesday. This means there will only be three days that feel like Winter, but staying weather alert is essential. Highs in the 70s can be expected by Friday and into the weekend.
