BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (WKRN) — Changes could be coming to one of Williamson County's most scenic routes—but the City of Brentwood wants to hear from the public before getting to work.
Old Smyrna Road is lined with beautiful homes, big trees, and stone fences, but the city said over the years there's been a growing number of issues along the road.
The road's narrow nature makes it difficult for larger vehicles like school buses and construction vehicles to traverse.
Brentwood officials have since brought in experts to evaluate options on how to preserve the road's historic feel.
One option would see the road transformed into a walking trail with no vehicles allowed. That option would see a new roadway constructed next to the original.
Another option is to build a new road and turn Old Smyrna Road into a one-way street only accessible to residents.
Now the city is asking the public to weigh in on the plans.
"We want the input. We want to [have] public input. They can give their thoughts on these options, and we will take that feedback back," Charles Booth, City of Brentwood Community Relations, told News 2.
A public input meeting is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 18, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the John P. Holt Brentwood Library, Meeting Room A. Those who want to weigh in are encouraged to stop by and share their thoughts.
