BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (WKRN) â Love from Tennessee is going to the Lone Star State tonight.
A Brentwood family spent the afternoon raising more than $21,000 for the flood victims in Texas.
The Brentwood community comes together, lending a hand to the flood victims in Texas, one of them being 21-year-old Reese Manchaca.
Cirby Snodgrass is Manchaca's cousin.
She said she came up with the idea to sell blueberries and lemonade in their neighborhood.
"I am just trying to do the best we can to get my family what we need to lay her to rest," Cirby said. "We are also trying to get a scholarship together to honor her legacy."
"Tragedy like this is unimaginable," Cirby's mother-in-law, Melody Snodgrass, said. "The stories that are coming out of this are heartbreaking."
Manchaca was heading into her junior year at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
The tragedy hit during what was supposed to be a well-deserved vacation with friends.
Cirby said their community raised $21,000, and after paying for Reese's funeral and potential scholarship fund, they plan to donate the rest to the Kerr County flood victims.
She said this is a bittersweet example of neighbors helping neighbors and the Volunteer State doing what it does best.
If you want to donate to this cause, Venmo payments can be sent online.
