NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — It's time to find the biggest and the oldest trees in Nashville.

A Music City tradition, the "Big Old Tree" contest, is back.

The competition started in 1987 and it's taken off.

Starting today, you can nominate your favorite tree in several different categories.

Some of the categories are the Biggest Tulip Poplar Tree, which is native to Tennessee; Biggest Schoolyard Tree; a Tree with a Unique Story; and Biggest Tree Submitted by Someone 15 and Under.

Nashville Tree Foundation's Madison Williams told News 2 many people get involved in the contest, and it's only grown over the years.

Williams said it was created to bring people together, and that's exactly what it's done.

"It's just really spread a lot of joy in the neighborhood, in the Nashville community. It does have to be within Davidson County, so that is something to note, but it's just a really great time to get people out of the house and walking around looking at trees," Williams said.
