Description
SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) -- A raid at a Sumner County house Tuesday led to the apprehension of two alleged drug dealers, as well as the discovery of fentanyl in some unique hiding spots.
The drug bust took place in Bethpage, just north of Gallatin, on Tuesday, Oct. 28. Members of the 18th Judicial District Drug Task Force told News 2 they were tipped off about illegal narcotics dealing and started surveilling the two suspects.
Agents said they took 36-year-old Cody Crowe and 47-year-old Kathy Crowe into custody. The couple is charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance with intent to sell and deliver, as well as possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance (marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
"We were able to confirm that they were a branch of a line of fentanyl that had been coming into Sumner County from another drug trafficking organization," a task force member said.
Authorities reportedly confiscated close to half a pound of marijuana. They also went through the many canisters in the home, searching for false compartments, and discovered several hollowed out cans, at least one of which contained approximately 2 grams of fentanyl, according to law enforcement.
"Unfortunately, we were only able to get 2 grams of fentanyl. Obviously, we'd like to take off a lot more, you know, save as many lives as we could here in Sumner County, but we know them to at least be an ounce-to-2-ounce-type dealer in this area, and I would consider that still a win, able to get them off the streets," the agent explained.
Investigators said they found approximately $1,200 in cash, as well as a handwritten ledger with names of people who allegedly owed money.
"It makes it a little bit easier to articulate that the individuals you have are not just possessing fentanyl for potential personal use, but they're also selling it, they're distributing it, they're poisoning the streets here in Sumner County, so locating something like that where it clearly shows that there's individuals that they're either delivering to or are showing up at that property, making purchases for the fentanyl," the agent told News 2.
Officials confirmed both suspects are still in the Sumner County jail ahead of their first court appearance, which is scheduled for next month.
Authorities said Kathy has prior drug convictions, but no additional details were released about her criminal
Meanwhile, according to court records, Cody was indicted in April 2010 for aggravated child abuse and neglect for injuring an 8-year-old in Davidson County. His 12-year sentence for those charges reportedly expired in March 2020.
The Tennessee Department of Correction told News 2 that Cody's most recent sentence -- a two-year state probation term for Schedule VI drugs out of Sumner County -- expired in July 2024. He has no active sentences in Tennessee at this time.
