WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency deployed a task force to Texas over the weekend following deadly floods.
Tennessee Task Force 2 is comprised of first responders from several Middle Tennessee fire departments and emergency management agencies. Within the task force are personnel from the Williamson County Emergency Management Agency.
According to Williamson County EMA External Affairs Officer Jill Burgin, they sent their Emergency Manager Officer Kate Brock along with her K9 to help with the search and rescue. They also sent two of their IT professionals to help with communication between all the first responders.
"A big part of any situation like this is communications," Burgin told News 2. "When you've got so many different agencies involved, and some different jurisdictions, communications can become a problem, especially if technology is not working."
Burgin said their two IT professionals are communication technician Butch Coulter and system analyst Justin Rilling. She said they have been in similar situations and will be a huge help in making the search and rescue safer and more efficient.
"Our guys, Butch and Justin, will be there really to help improve network connectivity and communications among the responders who are there," Burgin said. "They can be doing everything from setting up R.F. communications — radio stuff — and I.T.-related networks, to handing out batteries for devices if needed."
On Monday, TEMA announced that they are also sending Tennessee Task Force 1. Tennessee Task Force 1 is comprised of firefighters from Memphis who will be focusing on the search and rescue.
