LA VERGNE, Tenn. (WKRN) — What started as a meetup to sale a gun led to an arrest Thursday night in La Vergne.
The La Vergne Police Department said officers were sent to the 5000 block of Murfreesboro Road just before midnight on Thursday, Aug. 28, to respond to an armed robbery.
When officers arrived, they reportedly detained multiple individuals and an investigation revealed that the incident involved the attempted sale of a firearm.
At some point, the suspect allegedly pulled out a handgun and attempted to take the firearm. Officers said they quickly secured the scene, recovered both firearms, and took the suspect into custody.
The suspect—who has not been identified—was taken to the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office and charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated assault.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
"We want to commend one of the victims, who was able to call 911 during the encounter, allowing our officers to respond quickly and safely apprehend the suspect. Their quick thinking directly contributed to a swift resolution," wrote the police department in a release about the arrest.
In addition, authorities are reminding residents that private sales and exchanges can be done 24/7 in the police department's parking lot at 5093 Murfreesboro Road.
