Steve Haley, District 11 Robertson County Commissioner, Dies at 65

ROBERTSON COUNTY TENNESSEE (Smokey Barn News) – Robertson County Commissioner Steve Haley has died following a battle with cancer; he was 65.

Commissioner Haley represented District 11 and was serving in his third elected term on the Robertson County Commission. According to former Robertson County Mayor Howard Bradley, Haley was known for his steady presence at meetings, thoughtful questions, and consistent support for education and community development.

“Steve has served a number of years in consecutive terms on the County Commission,” Bradley said. “He was always very conscientious. He always attended the meetings. He asked good questions. He was on top of things for the constituents in his district, and also looking out for the concerns of the county as a whole.”

Bradley added that Haley was a strong supporter of public education, the county’s growth plan, library expansion projects, and the local college. “You could always count on him when schools had to be built or expanded,” Bradley said.

Haley lived in Springfield, Tennessee, but was originally from Guthrie, Kentucky. He studied history and geography at Austin Peay State University and worked for a food distribution company that supplied products to Kroger stores. He was previously a candidate for Robertson County Clerk.

Haley’s wife, Elaine Haley, served as the longtime director of music at Springfield’s Methodist Church. Bradley also noted that the Haley family is well known throughout southern Kentucky and northern Middle Tennessee, particularly in the Adams and Cedar Hill areas.

“He had a very outgoing personality and never met a stranger,” Bradley said. “He was always very giving of himself and his abilities.”

According to officials with the Robertson County Funeral Home, who is handling the arrangements, Haley will be buried at Bellwood Cemetery in Adams. Service times have not yet been announced but are expected sometime Sunday.
