SMYRNA, Tenn. (WKRN) -- Just two days after a man reportedly opened fire inside a Smyrna liquor store, leading to an hours-long standoff, Legacy Wine and Spirits reopened Thursday.
According to the Smyrna Police Department, officers responded to reports of an active shooter at the store along Lee Victory Parkway on Tuesday, July 15.
The suspect -- identified as Renaudd Broaden -- allegedly fired shots at multiple employees before barricading himself inside the business. In the surveillance footage, he can be seen throwing liquor bottles on the floor with a gun in his hand.
After hours of negotiations and assistance from multiple Rutherford County law enforcement agencies, officials said Broaden was taken into custody. No injuries were reported from this incident.
"I was able to catch, I guess, the part where they were doing the negotiation," Smyrna resident Andrew Terry said.
Terry lives close to Legacy Wine and Spirits and couldn't believe he was witnessing a standoff in Smyrna.
"I kind of didn't believe it until I actually saw it. The roads were blocked off, and just thinking about, you know, this is a quiet neighborhood. That's the whole reason I decided to move here," Terry said, adding that he came out to support the liquor store when it reopened on Thursday, July 17.
According to store employees, they were in shock when the situation was happening, but they're very excited the business is back open. They showed News 2 a bullet hole in the wall, serving as a reminder of how dangerous this situation was for them and the officers outside.
Other people in the nearby neighborhood said they're happy Legacy Wine and Spirits was able to reopen so quickly. However, they're now concerned about crime in the area.
"The gas station that's right in front of it recently was broken into," Smyrna resident Alize Prather said. "I know a couple of businesses down the road were also broken into recently, so I was kind of thinking, like, maybe I need some new security systems or something over here."
Community members told News 2 they plan to support the store as it recovers, hoping this kind of violence doesn't happen again.
"Prayers go out to the owners of the store. [I] hope...mentally, they're alright just because I know the situation can be pretty devastating, could have some post-traumatic stress after it, but just prayers out to the victims, and [I] hope the gentleman that felt the need to do what he did is able to find some type of clarity and hopefully feel sorry for what he did," Terry said.
As for Broaden, police said he faces multiple charges, including aggravated robbery, three counts of aggravated assault, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and felony theft of a firearm. There are also some pending charges, such as felony vandalism, attempted arson, and felony reckless endangerment.
