NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — After asking residents to share their concerns on zoning issues, a Davidson County neighborhood group has revealed the results of their survey.
The survey was given to residents in response to a proposed rezoning which would have turned the neighborhood from one zoned for single-family homes to one zoned for multi-family homes. Ninety-four people participated, and the results found a majority of neighbors were in support of detached accessory dwelling units — like above-garage apartments or guest houses. They also supported higher-density mixed-use along the corridors and increased safety and sidewalks in the neighborhood.
Leaders of the Glencliff Neighborhood Group said their ultimate goal is to continue bridging the gap between council and the constituents. The group's secretary, Katie Phillips, said a common misconception is that people don’t want change, but they're hoping to continue voicing opinions of what residents want to see in the future.
"Based on our conversations, we’ve learned a lot about the people in our neighborhood," Phillips said. "I’d argue that Ginny [Welsch, Metro Councilmember] has learned a lot about people in our neighborhood. We’ve got a lot of opinions, and most people are open to change. I think the common thread is that people just want to have a voice in the conversation.”
The Glencliff Neighborhood Group's Treasurer, Tony Zavitson, said Welsch wants to use the survey results for future zoning plans so residents' concerns are represented moving forward. Welsch spoke at the recent meeting where the results were revealed.
Neighborhood leaders say if you want to weigh in on zoning issues, you can reach out to the Glencliff Neighborhood Group. Glencliff will hold their next neighborhood meeting on August 11 at the Glencliff High School Auditorium.
