NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A short police pursuit Monday in the Midtown area of Nashville led to the discovery of several pounds of marijuana and thousands of dollars in cash.

According to arrest documents, officers first spotted the Chrysler 300 near the intersection of Charlotte Pike and 19th Avenue North, and determined it displayed tags that were registered to a different vehicle.

The driver -- later identified as Decorries Smith, 25 --- fled as officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, prompting a response from Metro Police helicopter unit. It was reported that spike strips were used to slow the vehicle.

The pursuit led a short distance away to the area of Jo Johnston Avenue and 19th Avenue North when Smith allegedly got out of the car and ran away. The Chrysler continued to roll and struck a parked Mercedes-Benz sedan. Smith was caught and arrested after a brief foot pursuit.

Inside the Chrysler, officers found approximately seven pounds of marijuana, packaging for commercial cannabis sales, drug paraphernalia and more than $2,800 in cash.
