Description
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — After Friday's severe thunderstorms that led to likely tornadoes in Southern Kentucky and wind damage in Middle Tennessee, there are more chances of severe thunderstorms in our region this upcoming week.
The greatest risk day appears to be Tuesday ahead of a potent cold front that will provide a much needed break in the storm risk and humid temperatures.
Meanwhile, Sunday, May 18, through Tuesday, May 20, will be the days to focus on the weather for possible severe thunderstorms. Both Sunday and Monday have a Marginal Risk (level 1/5).
On Tuesday, the Storm Prediction Center has our area an Enhanced Risk (level 3/5) and a Slight Risk (level 2/5).

We'll look closer at each day and break down the severe storm risk. First for Sunday and Monday, the overall severe risks are low on these days. Monday's storms could feature a higher wind gust threat and heavy rainfall.

Sunday, a few storms in the morning hours with a warm front lifting back into our region. The severe risk is relatively low, but a wet start to our Sunday, ending with warmer and humid conditions by the afternoon.
Monday, a storm complex from the Central Plains will enter our region by Monday morning. With this type of setup (northwest upper air flow), the storm threat is mostly wind gusts and hail plus heavy rain.
Tuesday appears to the most significant day of the three as all threats will be elevated, especially wind gusts and hail. If additional parameters can come in place, the tornado risk may increase also.

At this time, Future Tracker is showing a lot of rain due to the lack of higher resolution data. We will see a better look by Sunday (May 18) as the storms track toward our region. The atmosphere will be very unstable with rich humid air and an approaching cold front, this should aid the severe storm risk.
After the front clears out on Wednesday into Thursday, temperatures heading into the Memorial Day holiday will be cooler than average. Our average high is in the lower 80s. We could have several days in the 70s during that time period.
