DONELSON, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 19-year-old is accused of leading officers on a high-speed chase that ended in a multi-vehicle crash after allegedly breaking into vehicles at a Donelson apartment complex on Memorial Day.

According to an arrest report, police were sent to Bexley Donelson in the 100 block of Donelson Pike on Monday, May 26 to respond to a theft in progress. The caller allegedly told authorities that the suspects were traveling in a dark-colored Honda, wearing ski masks and breaking into vehicles in the back area of the complex.

When officers arrived to the complex, they reportedly found two people in a vehicle wearing ski masks, which matched the suspect description. Law enforcement said they gave commands for the driver—later identified as 19-year-old Jayden Ontiveros—to show his hands, but he took off at a "high rate of speed" instead.

An arrest report states that Ontiveros almost hit an officer while fleeing, which would have "resulted in serious bodily injury or death."

At some point during the chase, the 19-year-old reportedly crashed into a truck, police SUV and another SUV, causing "immense damage" to the vehicles. Police added the vehicle Ontiveros was using to flee from officers also flipped.

Authorities then demanded that Ontiveros show his hands, but he allegedly reached for the floorboard instead. Since the 19-year-old wasn't following commands, police said they broke the driver's side window to gain access inside the vehicle.

Ontiveros and the passenger were reportedly assisted out of the vehicle and immediately taken into custody. According to an arrest report, officers learned the vehicle was stolen after running the VIN number.

Inside the vehicle, police said they found a firearm in the area where Ontiveros was reaching, a window breaker, and a brown jacket with 12 grams of marijuana, which the 19-year-old allegedly admitted was his.

The 19-year-old is being held at Metro Jail on a $63,500 bond.
