NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 42-year-old man was arrested for assaulting an officer and child endangerment while on Broadway Sunday in downtown Nashville.
Officers were flagged down by a security guard near Fourth Avenue North and Broadway for a man who was overly intoxicated with three young children, ages 3, 7 and and 10.
According to court documents, Roberto Francesco Mirto is a diplomatic official for the United Kingdom who was showing signs of impairment and became combative while speaking with officers.
Mirto reportedly became increasingly belligerent before officers placed him in handcuffs and sat him on a window sill. He tried to walk away and officers physically restrained him, during which he bit an officer on the arm, according to Metro police.
During the encounter, Mirto reportedly made insulting and derogatory statements to arresting offices based on nationality and religion. He was taken into custody and transported to Metro General Hospital for a blood draw.
Mirto was unable to tell officers who could help take care of his children. Officers determined he could not care for them and arrangements were made for the safekeeping of the children.
Mirto was booked into the Metro jail and charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, child endangerment and aggravated assault on an officer. He was released on a $22,000 bond.
