GALLATIN, Tenn. (WKRN) -- About 15 hours after notifying the public about a large police presence near the boat ramp at Lock 4 Road, officials shared details about what led to that presence.
According to the Gallatin Police Department, officers responded to a report of shots fired at the second boat access near Lock 4 Road shortly before 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 15.
Authorities said a group of "local students/juveniles" had gathered at the location for "recreational purposes," but after a dispute, one minor became agitated and separated from the group. Shortly afterward, the suspect allegedly fired a gun in an unknown direction.
Even though law enforcement said everyone fled the scene, officers responded within three minutes of the call, identified those involved, and conducted interviews.
According to police, one juvenile was taken into custody for reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm, but further charges are pending. The suspect was brought to juvenile detention.
If you have any information about this incident, you're asked to call the Gallatin Police Department at 615-452-1313.
No additional details have been released about the circumstances surrounding Thursday evening's gunfire.
