Millersville Moves to Decertify Former Detective

MILLERSVILLE, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – The Millersville Police Department has officially requested the decertification of former Captain Todd Dorris, according to a statement issued Friday by Police Chief Stephen Hale. Dorris was removed from the department following an internal review conducted shortly after Hale assumed leadership.

According to Millersville Police Chief Stephen Hale, the decision to pursue decertification through the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission underscores the department’s renewed focus on professionalism and accountability. Back in April of this year, Hale was appointed as the city’s new Police Chief.  FULL STORY

The following is Chef Hail’s full statement.

“The Millersville Police Department has formally submitted a request to the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission to initiate the decertification process for former Captain Todd Dorris.
“Shortly after I assumed the role of Chief of Police, Mr. Dorris was removed from the police department following a review of conduct that did not align with the expectations of this agency.
“This action reflects our commitment to restoring professionalism and ensuring that all members of this department meet the highest standards of conduct, accountability, and public service. We will continue taking the necessary steps to strengthen the integrity of this organization and earn the trust of the community we are sworn to protect.”
You may recall that Dorris was recently indicted following a TBI investigation. That case stems from allegations that he made a false statement under oath during a court hearing last year. FULL STORY In our conversation with Chief Hale, he made no statement connecting the TBI’s investigation to his decision to pursue decertification.
