Metro Planning Commission meeting discusses controversial Thompson Lane short-term rental rezoning

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A controversial rezoning proposal is set to be discussed by Metro planning leaders tonight.

The plan would allow more short-term rentals along Thompson Lane, and it has neighbors fired up.

Some residents who live near the proposed zoning change along Thompson Lane are against it.

According to planning documents, the Metro Planning Commission is considering two properties near St. Edward Church on Thompson Lane; the proposal would allow them to become short-term rentals.

Metro Councilwoman Ginny Welsch told News 2 it would bring the zoning in line with what was approved by the Board of Zoning Appeals, to allow non-owner-occupied short-term rentals.

Residents told News 2 they're not against growth, but would prefer the growth to be for long-term residents and accommodate permanent housing needs.

Welsch said she's not opposed to the rezoning idea.

"Given the location of these properties—so far away from any residential properties—I don’t have an objection to these," she said.

The planning commission is scheduled to hear from the public on the idea in the meeting, which began at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 24.

City planners have recommended approval of the rezoning.
