NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Some ethics concerns over alleged conduct of a Metro Councilwoman will move to a hearing.
Metro District 1 Councilwoman Joy Kimbrough is accused of trying to use her position for personal gain over a proposed rezoning.
The drama stems from land that would have to be rezoned for Best Brands—a Nashville liquor distribution company—to build a warehouse on Ashland City Highway and Briley Parkway.
The company reportedly promised to hire employees from Bordeaux, and for five years give $150,000 to nonprofits in the area. However, according to the formal complaint filed by Best Brands CEO Ryan Moses, Kimbrough said that wasn't enough and asked for $500,000 to be paid upfront in order to gain her support.
According to the Metro Department of Law, the city's ethics board voted to dismiss some allegations as well as to hold a hearing on others.
Allegations concerning manipulation of customary public processes for neighborhood and private meetings have been dismissed by the Ethics Board, according to Associate Director of Law Lora Barkenbus Fox. Additionally, the board voted to hold a hearing on allegations that CM Kimbrough demanded payment of funds, where she would control where the funds are directed, in order to go forward with the rezoning request.
According to the Metro Law Department, the hearing date for those allegations has not been finalized.
