HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (WKRN) -- A man accused of "strangulating" a Hopkinsville officer back in March was reportedly indicted by the Christian County Grand Jury Friday for multiple charges.
The Hopkinsville Police Department said an officer noticed a motorcycle passing a vehicle on the right side of the shoulder at Old Clarksville Pike and Fort Campbell Boulevard on March 12. As a result, the officer initiated a traffic stop near mile marker 7 on Pennyrile Parkway.
The officer made contact with the motorcyclist, 43-year-old Carlo Jones of Hopkinsville, who “became extremely argumentative and advised that he did not need to provide his driver’s license,” authorities said.
When the officer tried to detain Jones, he allegedly pulled away and pushed the officer. Then, Jones ran toward the officer and bear-hugged him, causing both Jones and the officer to fall over the guardrail, down toward an embankment near water, according to police.
After that, officials said Jones “mounted the officer and began strangulating the officer to the point of almost losing consciousness.” The officer was reportedly brought to the hospital for treatment after
At the time of the incident, law enforcement said Jones was charged with attempted murder of a first responder (peace officer), resisting arrest, menacing, and improper passing.
More than two months later, on Friday, May 16, a true bill was returned indicting Jones for first degree attempted murder of a police officer, first-degree strangulation, third-degree assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, and menacing, according to WKDZ Radio.
No additional details have been released about this case.
