NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man considered to be one of the "Most Wanted" fugitives in Nashville has been arrested in Illinois.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, 93-year-old Anthony B. Howland was taken into custody by authorities in Peoria, Illinois, on Tuesday, July 1.
Howland was featured on the MNPD's "Most Wanted" list for several weeks on vehicular homicide charges. He first appeared on this list this year in February.
According to the MNPD, Howland's charges stem from a July 26, 2024 crash that killed 53-year-old Kristie Garcia on Lafayette Street. The investigation into the incident revealed Garcia had the green light and was making a left turn from Claiborne Street onto Lafayette when her Kia Soul was struck by an inbound Pontiac Grand Am Howland was driving.
Garcia was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died more than two weeks later, on Aug. 7.
On the night of the crash, police said Howland's blood alcohol content measured at .18% — more than double the legal limit of .08%.
Police said they issued warrants for vehicular homicide by intoxication and vehicular assault for Howland in December.
Howland will be brought back to Nashville "soon" to be booked on those charges, according to MNPD.
