NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Metro Nashville Police Department is investigating a claim of self-defense after a deadly shooting Saturday morning in South Nashville.

The incident was reported at 1:50 a.m. outside of an apartment in the 200 block of Tampa Drive.

According to authorities, an investigation found that the 48-year-old man victim arrived at an apartment that belonged to a woman he knew and repeatedly knocked on the door asking to speak with her.

The woman's alleged boyfriend, a 60-year-old man, answered the door and asked him to leave. The 60-year-old reportedly told authorities that the other man continued knocking.

During their third interaction, a physical altercation began between the 48-year-old man and the woman.

The woman's boyfriend said he saw the other man reach for an item in his waistband, at which point the 60-year-old shot the victim one time.

The man called emergency services, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials are working to notify his next of kin.

Investigators later found a BB gun pistol in the victim's possession.

At the time of publication, no charges were filed against the 60-year-old shooter. When the investigation has concluded, it will be sent to the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
