COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 40-year-old man has died following a stabbing that was reported in Cookeville over the weekend, officials said.

The Cookeville Police Department said officers were sent to Miller Avenue to respond to reports of a stabbing at approximately 2:14 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18.

When law enforcement arrived, they reportedly found a man with a stab wound and detained an individual "without incident."

According to the CPD, the victim—identified as 40-year-old Shawn Torres— was flown to a hospital in Nashville, where he was later pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, officials said a suspect, who was only identified as a 40-year-old woman, was detained and interviewed by detectives. However, following a preliminary investigation, no charges have been filed.

"We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. Torres. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time," the CPD wrote in a social media post about the incident.

No additional information was immediately released.
