Description

LA VERGNE, Tenn. (WKRN) -- La Vergne law enforcement said they took a "dangerous driver" off the road following an attempted traffic stop last week.

According to the La Vergne Police Department's Facebook post from Sunday, April 27, someone contacted dispatch a few days earlier to report a suspected drunk driver. Thanks to the detailed descriptions and continuous updates, officers quickly tracked down the vehicle.

When authorities tried to perform a traffic stop at Murfreesboro Road and Floyd Mayfield Drive, they said the driver refused to comply and continued for almost a mile before stopping. Law enforcement safely removed the driver from the vehicle and conducted a thorough investigation.

Officials said the individual was charged with felony driving under the influence (fourth offense), driving on a suspended license (second offense), and felony evading, adding that his "blatant disregard for the law and the safety of others could have had devastating consequences."

"We are thankful for the citizen who refused to stay silent, the dispatchers who quickly relayed critical information, and our 2nd shift officers whose swift actions prevented a dangerous situation from escalating further," the department wrote on Facebook Sunday. "Let it be clear, reckless and impaired driving will not be tolerated in our city. Together with our citizens, we will continue taking immediate action to keep our roads safe."

No additional details have been released about this incident, including the identity of the driver who was apprehended.
