LEBANON, Tenn. (WKRN) — After six years, the City of Lebanon is officially opening its brand new sports complex Wednesday night.
Lebanon Mayor Rick Bell told News 2 there's so much excitement for the complex's opening—it's providing a unique place for kids and adults to play sports, and it's the first time in 20 years the city has built a new athletic facility.
The conversation about building the complex started in 2019.
Bell told News 2 it took a lot of planning and funding, so to be on the other side of that hard work is a good feeling.
The complex has multiple soccer fields, a concession stand, a playground and a walking path—and that's just in Phase 1.
Once Phase 2 is complete, there will also be baseball and softball fields at the complex.
Bell said he hopes the complex will have a generational impact on Lebanon families.
"This is something that's really about the future," he told News 2. "It's about the kids that are here now, but it's also about the kids in future generations as well. Our other park is called Bear Park. That's where our baseball and softball fields are. It was first built back in the 1950s, and 70 years later, kids are still playing there. This park will be the same thing."
City officials cut the ribbon on the new spots complex at 6 p.m.
