JOELTON, Tenn. (WKRN) — Those concerned about speeding on Rawlings Road in Joelton have a chance to share their concerns and learn about plans to address it Tuesday night.
The Rawlings Road Traffic Calming meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church Joelton.
Those in Metro Council District 1 are invited to attend the meeting, which will be facilitated by the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure.
At issue is the portion of Rawlings Road between Clarksville Pike and Eatons Creek Road. According to NDOT, residents in the neighborhood applied for the NDOT Traffic Calming Program with a goal of lowering traffic speeds and making the street safer for people walking, biking, transit, and driving.
"NDOT is working with nearby residents to choose a traffic calming design and facilitate a voting process to approve or reject the plan," NDOT said.
Comments left on the public engagement map took issue with drivers regularly traveling at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour on the road, though the posted speed limit is 30 miles per hour.
For those who can't attend the meeting in person, a virtual option is also available for those who want to hear the details NDOT will provide. That link is available here.
Once the community engagement has been collected, NDOT will provide a final plan to address the speeding. Homeowners along Rawlings Road will then be eligible to vote whether to accept or reject the proposal through a balloting process.
If two-thirds of the property owners vote to approve the project, NDOT will continue onto construction. Otherwise, the project will not continue.
