Description

MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man dodged across multiple lanes of traffic on the interstate, allegedly after burglarizing a Nashville home. Mt. Juliet police arrested the suspect moments later.

“It's one of those things where your brain is like ‘this is not possible,’” said Michael Hüby, who witnessed the scene.

Hüby told News 2 that he couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw a man running across traffic on I-40 near the Providence exit, then jumped over the concrete divider to run to the other side.

“You just hit the brakes and then look left and right and just hope the person doesn’t get hit by any of the other cars,” Hüby said.

Moments later, Mt. Juliet police arrested the man. They discovered the phone on him did not belong to him. Once the police contacted the owner, they learned the suspect had allegedly broken into a home.

“When you look at our statistics and see that the offenders committing crime are coming out of Nashville, many are wanted out of Nashville,” Tyler Chandler, Mt. Juliet Deputy Chief, said back in November.

It's a trend that Mt. Juliet police continue to see of Nashville crime pouring into their community.

Back in February, the Wilson County Sheriff called out Metro for not having license plate reader cameras. It’s something every county surrounding Nashville has in place.

“It seems to work. It seems to work in Franklin and every other county than Davidson,” Hüby said.

As for Hüby, he said Sunday’s event wasn’t the first time he’s seen erratic behavior on the interstate. “Two weeks ago, I saw a wrong-way driver on Briley Parkway coming towards me at night."

He said it was a miracle the suspect on Sunday didn’t get hit or cause any sort of accident.

“I couldn’t close my eyes, but it's one of those things where you wish you could have because I just didn’t want to see him getting hit,” Hüby said.
