Description
WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A series of crashes and a tractor-trailer fire closed a portion of Interstate 40 in Mt. Juliet late Tuesday night.
Prior to the crashes, construction near mile marker 226 had the roadway reduced to two lanes. The first crash involved three vehicles at this location around 10:30 p.m. Mt. Juliet police noted there were injuries involved in this initial crash but did not provide details.
Injuries were also reported in the second crash, which involved a tractor-trailer hauling clothing material that caught on fire. Due to the location, crews had to shuttle water to the scene at mile marker 225 to extinguish the fire.
Firefighters from multiple jurisdictions were delayed bringing water to the scene because motorists were blocking the shoulders and emergency lanes, according to Mt. Juliet police.
The third crash happened near mile marker 224 and involved three vehicles. It is not known if anyone was injured in this crash.
Extra officers responded to the interstate to help manage traffic and help any motorists who may have ran out gas.
Eastbound traffic was diverted at the Old Hickory Boulevard exit at the county line. The roadway reopened to traffic around 3:30 a.m. except for one lane near the site of the fire while crews continue to clean up debris.
No additional information was immediately released.
